Thursday Oct 31

We did a few things today, just to make sure that we also included a few people going to pictures being taken in the Spec.

We read to page 205 in the text after taking up some homework.

All good

Wed Oct 30

I'm doing this late, sorry. It's been quite a few days.

We read to page 196 and got up to 23 done of the questions.

We also got the dates for the CA done ...and got the CA handed out.

Cool.

Monday Oct 28

Right on, we took up homework from yesterday and chatted about the homework for tomorrow - #23.

We read to page 195 together.

I gave the class some time to work with their Presentation partners, if any. I did chat with a few that were already done, and I was quite impressed.

Of course ... others ... had not started. We got together and we conferenced about it.

Someone is researching about this guy

Thursday and Friday Oct 25

Thursday we read to Page 176 in the text and we went and selected ... or at least some selected their Research Presentation topics from a handout that is in the classroom.

I'll post some of the links you can use to gather information for your presentations ont he right hand side.

Thursday night was Parent Teacher Nights.

On Friday we read to 186 and got Question 22 from the Unit Outline for homework. I also took care to get everyone present to sign up for a topic for their Presentataions.

I also assigned a due date for the last section of the A Long Way Gone Unit. Nov 5th!

Ok - have a great weekend!

Wed Oct 23

Today we read to page 170 in the text and we got the Presentation Topics at the end of the reading.

We will post the due dates for this and for the CA up in the classroom and up on this blog by the end of the week.

We also will have the due date for the last part of the Novel Study, too.

Right on!

Something we should all strive to be

Tuesday Oct 22

Well, we got back in the portable today - it was a nice and calm day.

We read to page 160 and got questions 20 and 21 from the list of questions.

We did do some chatting about the Parent-Teacher night this Thursday and about the mark Update that should come shortly, too.

I also recommended that students leave their CA novels in their lockers, just in case we get a day to read them in class in the next few weeks.

Monday Oct 21

Today we were in the library, picking our people for Culminating Activity.

We heard from the Librarian and then we interviewed and I wrote down choices of people.

Then, we started working on the books.

Details by the end of the week.

Back in the portable tomorrow!

Pic is unrelated ... or is it?

Thursday and Friday Oct 18

Thursday was a quiz day.

After we got that done, we chatted about the CA and the PT night next week.

We also handed in the journal for Part two - see the due dates on the right-hand side of the blog.

Friday, we read to page 144 and we got 14, 15, 16 , 17, 18 and 19 for homework.

Right, off we go then.

Wed Oct 16

Ok, well ... we got up to the end of Chapter 14 read today.

I don't want to change anything for tomorrow, so I've not assigned any work today so far.

I did chat about two or three ideas for the CA for people in this class, including Morrie Swartz, Elon Musk and Shaquille O'Neill. All really cool people and good ideas for 15% of the final mark.

More details on Monday Oct 21, the day we are to pick people for this assignment.

I also showed the class this link. It's an idea for the unit wrap up assignment which I'll start chatting about next week.

Tuesday Oct 15

Today we worked a bit on things that are due Thursday.

We chatted a bit about the 26-50 Vocab that is due Thursday, as well as the Character Sketches.

We finished today chatting about ways to pick a person or topic for the Culminating Activity for this class.

I recommend the Burlington Public Library's audiobook section for topics.

Wed and Thursday Oct 10

My class made it onto the big screen...

Wednesday we read to the end of Chapter 11 and worked on the TWD - ALWG comparision in class.

It was pretty epic.

Thursday we read to page 106 and we chatted about the same assignment, as well as what is due when and finally talked about the date for picking a person for the culminating.

Tues Oct 8

Assignment TWD and ALWG 0919

In a carefully worded informal piece of writing of about 75 words, comment on how what Rick Grimes and Ishmael Beah see. You should get this to me by tomorrow.

A good idea would be to comment on the distrust people show to each other, how people search for safety and what people do for food.

Email it to Chesserhandin1@ gmail dot com.

We did read to the end of Chapter 10 in the novel. We also worked on the second part of the vocabulary, too.

Monday Oct 7

I'm glad we were in class today. It made things just happier all around. I'm glad you were here today.

We read to page 80 in the text and I asked that students begin the second part of the Vocab section of the novel study. I wanted to conference with people about what will be put in for their progress reports that are due this week.

No surprises is my motto.

We also chatted about the topics for the CA in this class. We also agreed to call it a CA in this class. ;)

Here is the pic of the topics for the CA again:

Thursday and Friday Oct 4

This has been a weird week, my friends.

Yesterday was the Pink Day ... and we worked together to finish things due on Friday.

Friday we had a short quiz and handed things in. See the Due Date on the right.

I usually start the next part of the novel, but students needed a bit more time than I thought to finish the quiz, so we watched some of the Ultimate tournament going on outside the portable until everyone was done.

I put the D2L Link on the right hand side of this blog for the unit after ALWG.

I also let people see the list from which they are to pick for their topic on the Culminating Activity for this course. The reason these people are on this list is their biographies are already in the school library, making it a bit easier to complete this assignment worth 15% of the final mark. Other people are "allowed" of course, and I'd personally would want my students to pick a Canadian, but ... anyway, here is the list. For now, pick someone you would be interested in reading and finding stuff out about.

Here it is:

Tuesday and Wed Oct 2

I was away yesterday and left some work for the students to do. Some came in, some has not.

We continued working on the Theme Study today, and then read the end of Chapter 10 in the novel. We also got questions 12 and 13.

I then tried hard to conference with my students about work being returned to the class. I will continue tomorrow, as I missed a number of students because they left the class as they were going to melt down due to kidney failure.

Or so it was mentioned.

I will do my best to keep people in class, but students should be prepared to stay in class for the full 75 minute period.

Make sure you know what is due Friday and that the quiz will be on Friday as well.
